I would like to put your child forward for their Graded Modern Exam. Those wishing to undertake their grade exams will need to attend an extra weekly class from next week onwards. (The week beginning 27th February until Saturday 27th May; 8 sessions). I will also offer further 2/3 tuition classes in the week leading up to the exams as our regular weekly studio classes will be finished by then (Monday 29th May-Friday 2nd June).
The cost for the extra 10 exam classes will be €50 (plus the exam fee) .Those taking ballet and modern exams (2 extra dance classes per week ) the cost is €70 (plus the exam fees).
This is a family fee, so if you have more than one child undertaking exams, you just pay once.
There will be no extra exam class on the following dates:
- Friday 17th & Saturday 18th March.
- Easter Holidays (Sunday 2nd April - Sunday 16th April)
- Monday 1st May.
- The week beginning May 8th and May 15th as we have our dance show in the Cork Opera House.
A detailed timetable for the exam weekend will be available by the middle of May.
Those wishing to undertake their exams, should text me (Careen) at 0872420630 this week to register. Since we last did exams in 2019, there has been complete overhaul of the exam syllabi. The exams for modern are now called Contemporary Modern Jazz and the grade content has been updated to adequately reflect the technique and skills required for todays dancers.
As this is our first exam session since COVID, we will undertake class assessments, for ballet and modern so the children will enter in groups of 6 (previously 3) and I will be present in the room. I think this is a wonderful way of our students to experience dance exams post covid- it’s a much more relaxed atmosphere and I am there to offer support and guidance during the exam.
Dance exams are a wonderful way to see the progress a child has made in dancing year on year and also offer a great opportunity for students to showcase their talent and hard work for an external examiner. I have been entering students for dance exams for almost 15 years and I would strongly encourage students to take them.
Graded exams are designed for the more serious dance student. They learn a set number of exercises, dance combinations along with 2 routines which they display for the examiner. Each student receives a pin and certificate.
